Object description :

"Corpus Christi - South Germany 17th Century"
Fruitwood sculpture, Southern Germany around 1600.
In this moving sculpted work, the artist offers a demonstration of his perfect knowledge of human anatomy. It is with great mastery that he places each of the muscles of the legs and arms, giving them the right tension in relation to the movement. The outcropping veins and tendons, the protruding ribs and the flesh of the feet deformed by the weight of the body accentuate the dramatic intensity of the subject. But with his head tilted on his right shoulder, his hair and beard in delicate curls, our Christ wears a peaceful expression and the great gentleness that emanates from his face makes us forget the harshness of the situation.

Height: 41 cm
Mounted on a blackened steel base.
