"Important Cylinder Desk In Mahogany, Louis XVI Style, Napoleon III Period - 2nd Half Nineteenth"
This cylinder desk offers two drawers, whose fronts, in solid mahogany with reserve, are dressed with brass rods in ogee. They are equipped with original locks in working order, with fitted keys and applied mesh entries. The side belts have the same composition. Above, we find a cylinder also underlined by an ogee brass rod and three brass grooves. The interior panel is made of a single seamless mahogany sheet. This part folds upwards, using two brass handles, and is locked with a functional original lock with two vertical points and key. There is a sliding shelf with a mitred edge and a quarter-round brass recessed front. The latter is dark with blood red leather with cold and golden vignettes as well as corner and central patterns. The interior part offers three drawers, with bowl knobs, and three identical niches. The upper element of this desk has three last drawers, of the same design, with recall grooves. They are topped with white Carrara marble, polished, veined with gray and without cracks, surrounded by an openwork brass gallery, with a slight return to the front. This set rests on four roughened legs, tapered, dressed in bronze collars at the top and ending in ball clogs. Composed of 80% solid mahogany, this cylinder desk will be appreciated for its functionality and the quality of its manufacture. ******** Period: 2nd half of the 19th century Excellent condition.
