Amédée Lynen, 1852-1938, He trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels where he was a pupil of Paul Lauters and Joseph Stallaert. He is primarily a draftsman, illustrator and watercolourist. He also practiced engraving and poster. His style is full of picturesque. He is one of the founding members of the circle "l'Essor" and the group "Pour l'Art". With Léon Dardenne, he opened in 1892 in Brussels at 12 rue aux Choux a cabaret called Le Diable au corps, where they staged shows of Chinese shadows and singers. In 1893, the duo launched an illustrated periodical in the name of the cabaret. We meet James Ensor, Paul-Henri Spaak, Pitje Schramouille, George Garnir, Charles Plisnier, as well as many students from the Free University.
It measures 17cm x 14cm at sight, 48cm x 39cm overall in its original frame.
