Object description :

"Medieval Tapestry The Sweet Heart The Offering Of The Heart The Gift Of The Heart"
This tapestry dates from the middle of the 20th century. She is well made. It has a label on the back "The sweet heart". Title: The offering of the heart Other title: The gift of the heart This tapestry illustrates one of the most frequent themes of courtly iconography: the gift of the heart. In the middle of a stylized vegetal decoration, a woman is seated, carrying a falcon on her gloved left hand. It is not a hunting scene but a conventional representation emphasizing belonging to the aristocratic milieu. A man walks towards her offering her a small heart: a poetic metaphor evoking a declaration of love that marks the beginning of a life full of adventures and exploits. We find "the gift of the heart" in courtly novels such as the Roman de la Rose. The figures are dressed in the fashion of the 15th century, with large coats lined with ermine. The man wears a tight, short doublet, revealing his legs dressed in breeches of two different colors. He has been wearing fashionable poulaines since the end of the 14th century. The lady is dressed in a wide dress, with a high waist. On either side of her rounded forehead, largely exposed, her hair protrudes from a headdress adorned with pearls. Copy of the tapestry preserved in the Louvre Museum, which dates from the beginning of the 15th century (1400-1410), woven in Arras, it has retained a perfect freshness of color and describes an emblematic scene of courtly love. The upholstery is in a good state of preservation, we report some friction and wear, no holes or tears, small deformations on the edges, scratches and lack of stucco on the ends of the bar. For the state thank you for detailing the photos. Dimensions: Height: 104.5 Width: 137 cm Bar Length: 139 cm Diameter: 3.5 cm L1916
