Painter and draughtsman, he became a student at the École des beaux-arts de Paris under the direction of marine painter Jules Noël and painter Eugène Lacoste. He exhibited in the Salon from 1865 until 1890. Laborne was a refined painter of urban views and landscapes. Paris, the Loire Valley, the south of Spain were often treated by his brushes. It also offers several views of the Norman coasts: Le Tréport, Fécamp, Honfleur, and Villers sur Mer.
