"Fixed Under Glass, 1820-1830."
These two small paintings are a variant of fixed under glass which is a representation of a subject, painted inverted on the back of a glass plate. These are engravings enhanced with gouache and pasted on the back of the glass. The subjects could be titled for one "the separation", a grieving soldier seems to bid farewell to his wife and the other "the return", this same soldier seems to find his wife with a child born during his absence. The bright colors have retained all their freshness and the probably original frames are in gilded wood. Restoration period. Frame dimensions 13 cm x 14.5 cm, view 9 cm x 10.5 cm.
