H. Dupont (19th century) : “Still life with fried eggs”, oil on canvas 38 X 46 cm, mounted in a gilded frame 53 X 61 cm. Two small very well done restorations visible on the back. Characteristic of the French School at the end of the 19th century, our still life is signed by an H. Dupont who seems unknown to Bénézit and databases, which is surprising when you see the quality of the work and opens the path to a known painter's pseudonym. Treated in a key between Manet and Ribot, both distant disciples of Vélasquez, the classical austerity of this painting will delight an interior as old as modern, in a timelessness which is the mark of real works.
