Adolphe Monticelli (1824-1826) Faust And Marguerite flag

Object description :

"Adolphe Monticelli (1824-1826) Faust And Marguerite"
All the talent of the most important Provençal artist of the 19th century, a fully mastered technique of wood panel reserve and a lyrical subject dear to the artist who was fond of the Opera and Bel Canto, in short, all the ingredients brought together by the master Adolphe Monticelli for this magnificent and luminous oil on panel proposed in a 19th century gilt frame of the Barbizon type which measures 82 cm by 54 cm (65 cm by 38 cm for the panel alone).
In excellent condition, the work representing Faust seducing Marguerite is signed lower left.
Difficult to photograph, the work is really more beautiful in reality.

Vincent van Gogh was inspired by Monticelli, whom he never met since the latter died in 1886 a few months before van Gogh arrived in Paris. He studied Monticelli's technique and experimented with this colorful and particularly expressive painting for certain works, as evidenced by his vases and bouquets and his search for a thick touch. "Monticelli sometimes took a bouquet of flowers as a motif to bring together on a single panel the whole range of his richest and best balanced tones," Vincent wrote to his brother Theo in March 1888.
