Object description :

"Napoléon Cabinet"
Elegant in-between piece of furniture from the Napoleon III period, with magnificent "Boulle" marquetry, named after Charles-André BOULLE, master cabinetmaker to King Louis XIV, who made this technique famous using the inlay of chiseled brass on a background. tortoiseshell. This ornamentation process is found in various places, in particular in the upper part, on the facade and on the uprights, always on a black background in blackened wood, thus offering a beautiful contrast. The chiseled brass inlays, of Greek inspiration, are in the form of intertwined volutes, flowers, foliage and a basket. This property opens with a door pulling to the right, composed in the corners of four concave elements: these are separated by chiseled bronze ornaments. One of them is an entrance provided with a key used for opening. The original lock and key are in working order. The pattern of oval shape in the central part, slightly domed, presents an important molding in bronze, with flower decoration accompanied by a pearl. The mahogany interior is structured with two shelves of the same species, adjustable on a rack. In addition, this quality furniture at support height is enriched with bronze scraps notably sculpted in the shape of Egyptian women in the upper part of the uprights, or in floral motifs for the other trimmings. Gadrooned strips of the same alloy, forming cords, underline the projecting base and the upper part delimiting the headband of the piece of furniture. This property is crowned with an original veined white Carrara marble in perfect condition, which brings an additional shine to the whole. Sumptuous, this bicentenary piece of furniture will delight lovers of exceptional furniture. ********** Period: Mid 19th century Perfect condition after restoration in our workshop.
