"Small Spice Cabinet In Pondicherry Teak - Late Nineteenth"
This century-old cabinet, in the style of Louis XIV, was made in the region of Pondicherry, a former French trading post in India. Its molded top is solid mahogany. This piece of furniture has two framed doors in solid teak, made up of rosewood panels with flowerbeds and molded on the inside. These doors are fixed on double iron hinges and are locked by an original functional lock with key and brass entry. The one on the left locks with a top and bottom clasp. The interior is lined with two solid mahogany shelves, adjustable since on racks. Below, there are two compartmentalized drawers with rosewood fronts. They are also equipped with original locks, keys and entrances. The sides have molded frames including seven rectangular panels with flowerbeds, six of which are of the same size (known as “chocolate bars”). These are nine panels with frames that make up the back. Guarantee of quality, this design work avoids, over time, the appearance of space between the panels. The dimensions and authenticity of this spice cabinet will appeal to lovers of antique furniture.
