Pair Of Chinese Candlesticks, 19th Century flag

Object description :

"Pair Of Chinese Candlesticks, 19th Century"

These upturned bronze flowers form with their petals the base of these candlesticks that one could, at first sight, confuse with Buddhist bells. Under each binet, two crayfish are represented and this is not an eccentricity of the bronzier! This symbol in China is a wish for success in exams because the word designating the shell of crustaceans and the character jia, means "first winner, champion"; though, in China, symbols are formed by homophony. So here is the ideal gift for a bachelor or a student: by working diligently in the light of these two precious objects, there is no doubt that he will get an excellent mention!
This pair of gilt bronze candlesticks are in perfect condition.
