Girardet is a French painter and illustrator from a family of artists of Swiss origin. His father Paul is an engraver, his older brother Eugène is an orientalist painter as well as his twin brother, Léon.
He trained at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in Alexandre Cabanel's studio. He produced portraits and genre scenes but he is best known for his historical paintings representing the revolutionary wars in Brittany. His works appear in the collections of the Art and History museums of Cholet, Morlaix, Quimper and Saint-Denis (Louise Michel and the Commune).
He obtained a medal at the Salon of 1881 as well as at the Universal Exhibition of 1889.
