Object description :

"Large Ziegler Haji-jalili Design, Superfine"
Ziegler (Zeigler) is the name of a design rather than an actual town or tribe.
Ziegler designer rugs are sometimes called Chobi rugs or Peshawar rugs. A German company based in Manchester (England), Ziegler and Co. commissioned the development of the original Ziegler rugs in 1870. Using designers and master weavers from Iran and Europe, Ziegler and Co. succeeded in creating a design using softer palettes than those typically found in Iran.

Ziegler rugs have been designed with the Western market in mind and fit perfectly into almost every universe. Based on a softer version of the original design, Ziegler rugs are often sanded with a stone to create a faded effect on the pile. Beige-ivory backgrounds dominate in Ziegler rugs, their colors used are natural, the striking patterns go well with the neutral, modern color palettes of contemporary or traditional interiors.

The weaving of Zeigler carpets began in the province of Arak, however, they are now made throughout the Persian region. Most new Ziegler models, like this one, are made in Pakistan and labeled Chobi (which translates to wood in Farsi, a reference to their natural color created by vegetable dye). Just like cola being called coke, regardless of brand.

Ziegler rugs are known by the name of its master weaver "Mr Ziegler", even though they are not made by Ziegler & Co. vegetable dyes are being reintroduced into Persian and Oriental weaving after the popular use of chemical dyes since the beginning of the 20th century.

Ziegler Antique Persian Rugs :

Ziegler rugs originated in the late 1870s. This was primarily due to a one-time subsidized commission. Zeigler & Co. of Manchester, England invested the original capital, which in turn led to the name. Unlike its predecessors, the Ziegler's finely constructed weave, exquisite patterns and delicate colors have left a distinctive mark on buyers and collectors today.

These Persian-style rugs found great success in Europe, especially in Western markets which saw the skill in the inspiring English translations and the value in the oversized proportions. Westerners also at the time took more pleasure in elaborate decorations.

Today, interior designers and art lovers appreciate the blended beauty of exotic and classic balance that Ziegler rugs bring to a room. Others value these rugs for their rich history, filled with tribal, Persian court and garden designs.

According to the growing niche market, many people prefer these classic rugs over others as they are the best representation of late 19th century and early 20th century Persian style rugs. This makes it a suitable artistic investment or for personal decor. Their desirability will only grow with their rarity.

You will notice for yourself the incredible work of meticulous weaving which is a guarantee of the great finesse of this rug that one could almost compare to work on silk. Wool quality ++ as well as remarkable finesse.
