"Large 19th Century Musketeer Painting"
Large oil on canvas signed lower left E.Brin and dated 1882, depicting a musketeer in contemplation in front of the window, smoking his pipe sitting in his armchair and holding his rapier in the other hand. Painting restored and relined on key frame. Size 116.5x81.5cm. Emile Quentin Brin (1863-1950), first a pupil of the marine painter Maurice Butin, he was admitted to the National School of Fine Arts in the studio of Alexandre Cabanel. He exhibited for the first time in 1888 at the Salon of French Artists, then from 1901 at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts. He also exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon d'Automne and the Salon d'Hiver, as well as at the retrospective of the Independents in 1926.
