The vase. decorated in its upper part with gilt bronze fittings, probably made in France. Fukagawa Eizaemon (1833-1889) founded the Koransha company in 1875, in 1889 the company was taken over by his son Yotaro, and in 1894 by his second son Chuji, who was active until 1935. Koransha was known for its high quality hand painted porcelain, which found a wide following in Europe and the United States, and today its high quality wares can be found in many museums such as the British Musuem in London and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
