"Tobacco Or Hemp Mortar, Holo, Drc"
Hemp or tobacco mortar representing a kneeling female figure. The arms are along the torso and the hands come around a slightly prominent navel. Only a necklace hanging between the breasts dresses the upper body. She wears a skirt on which is drawn a checkered pattern. The face is fine, the eyes are half-closed and the expression is serene. The head is surmounted by a container serving as a mortar.
The sculpture is fine and the general look is very balanced.
First part of the 20th century.
Wood with a beautiful brown patina from use. Small holes in the skirt and behind the head certainly due to a removal to keep some power of the statuette with you. The mortar cover is missing.
