"Large Clock By Jean-françois-théodore Gechter (1796-1844) "charles The Bold""
Clock from the 1840 period, in gilt bronze and black marble from Belgium, surmounted by a bronze group by Jean-François-Théodore Gechter. Marble base of M.Mudesse in Paris, marble worker, 6 rue Losses du Temples, he obtained on September 24, 1839 a patent for the veneer of marble on wood and metal. Group in bronze with a combat theme, representing "Charles the Bold" on his horse defeating an enemy, sculpture with nuanced brown patina. Very high quality bronze, finesse of the carving, quantity of details and ornaments, fiery movements, characteristics of this romantic sculptor who was particularly fond of this kind of composition where a rider seeks to overthrow another unhorsed rider. A note, a small repair on the marble, almost invisible.
