Object description :

"Fireback, Second Empire "
Beautiful aged fireback, as usual in cast iron, period 1800-1825. The second Empire is an architectural style with a taste of luxury and splendour and was inspired in an eclectic way by 'Des Architectures de l'Antiquite'. In the center of this fireback (or backsplash) is depicted the 'Lyre', a string-instrument known for its use in Greek and Roman classical Antiquity and later periods. Recitations of lyric poetry were accompanied by lyre playing.  Firebacks were made to protect the inside wall in the fireplace. But can be also mounted to the wall, as a very decorative backsplash.  Antique Fireplace First is providing worldwide shippings.
