Object description :

"Fireback With The Alliance Arms Of F. Des Salles And C.-l. By Ficquelmont (86x84 Cm)"
18th century fireback, dated 1716, with the arms of François des Salles, Count of Rorté, Marquis of Bulgnéville (1661-1730) and Catherine-Louise de Ficquelmont (1683-1765), canoness of Remiremont , married in 1703. The Salles family, originally from Béarn, settled in the 15th century in Champagne and Lorraine. It possessed renowned forges in Lorraine. The Fiquelmont family is a family of chivalric extraction, originating from Lorraine and known since 1138, but whose filiation is only fully proven since Henry de Ficquelmont, knight, who died before 1386. Our plaque was found in Corcelles-les -Cîteaux in the Côte d'Or. Its coat of arms: On the dexter: in silver with a tower donjonnée in sand. A sinister: Or, three blades sharpened Gules, surmounted by a passerby wolf Sable. Crown of Duke or Prince. Support two lions. Its frame, sculpted with acanthus, is curved at the top, military attributes (flags) and two faces in profile with Indian haircuts, on either side of a gonfanon, complete its decor. Our last photo is an engraving of the tree of the illustrious noble houses of chivalrous extraction from Lorraine. Its weight is 201 kg. Bibliography: similar plaque published in CARPENTIER H., Plaques de Cheminées, Tome Premier, F. DE NOBELE, Paris, 1967, page 253 No. 708. Bar-Le-Duc Museum.
