As it is the kind of humor that I practice willingly, I could not help but buy it from him... It must be said that this study on free canvas, simply held in a posterior frame by a cardboard box, already had everything for me. please: the suggestive touch, the composition, and the style at the crossroads of Delaroche and Flandrin, even if I see it a little later, around 1880. As for the subject, it could be the two disciples (who are identified usually to Cleophas and another young disciple who could be Simon-Pierre) on the road to Emmaus who are joined anonymously by Christ who will only be recognized at mealtime in the village, when the bread is shared ( Luke 24 13-35).
