Coming from a family of glassmakers of Catalan origin who settled in Paris at the turn of the 20th century, Jean Sala trained in his father's studio, Bienvenu Sala, before creating his own studio not far from the artistic Montparnasse. His contribution to modern glassware is due to the nature of his material, deliberately imperfect and riddled with bubbles, as well as the originality of this Parisian workshop designed as an independent glassblower's workshop. He studies the work of the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs and draws his own pieces. From 1933 to 1939, he created for the crystal works of Saint Louis a table service, vases, cups, candlesticks and animal subjects including his popular fish. He exhibited with his father until the 1920s. Then in national and international exhibitions.
