Cult Figure, Gope, Papua New Guinea, Oceanic Art, Primitive Arts, Sculpture
Amazing Papuan sculpture probably similar to a "Yipwon" cult figure collected in the village of Sevenbuck in Papua New Guinea. The Yipwon is one of the most stylized and symbolic objects of the Sepik River area. It represents a two-dimensional character placed in the Haus Tambaran (men's house) and is closely linked to the warrior world. Wooden specimen slightly eroded throughout. Sold mounted on a base.
