Huge bronze sculpture representing Mercury with medal patina, cylindrical marble base. Signature of the founder and publisher F.Barbedienne (1810-1892) and mechanical reduction stamp Achille Collas (1795-159). Mercury was the messenger god and the god of traders. Driven by the wind from the mouth of Aeolus with winged sandals and a helmet to facilitate its rapid flight. His finger pointing upwards in the direction of Jupiter. The original statue was made in 1563 by the sculptor Giambologna, and can still be seen in the Nazionale del Bargello museum in Florence.
Jean de Bologne (Giambologna in Italian), Mannerist sculptor of Flemish origin, born in Douai Romanesque Flanders in 1529 and died in Florence in 1608.
