"Mask - Tetela / Democratic Republic Of The Congo"
The Tetela are a population of Central Africa, established mainly in the provinces of Sankuru and West Maniema. Their masks and more generally all of their artisanal production are among the rarest and can be confused with the productions of their Songye neighbors. Their conception of aesthetics is particularly convergent and mutual influences can be found there. On the other hand, we can note many notable differences such as the use of complex polychrome decorations by the Tetela craftsmen, the triangular nose or even this half-open mouth. The complex work of the decorations carved in the wood of the mask confirms the important aesthetic interest of this piece.
