Magnificent bronze statue, representing a "lyre player" named Tyrtée signed E. LAPORTE (Emile LAPORTE, Sculptor 1858/1907).
Registration on the base "TYRTEE"
Tyrtaeus was the laureate poet of Sparta in the 7th century BC. AD and the author of a new poetic form called ancient elegy; these are warrior songs with an educational scope, known as Exhortations.
