A student at the College of Saint-Lô, he became tax collector and authorized representative of the General Treasury of La Manche. But at 33, he decided to give up everything for painting. He discovered Concarneau around 1890 and subsequently returned there for more than forty years. Member of the National Society of Fine Arts and the Pastel Society of London, he was appointed painter of the Navy in 1900. He moved to Concarneau in 1903, his house, the famous villa Ty Ker Moor, became a place of meeting of painters. He paints markets, fairs, returns from fishing. Painter of silhouettes, he sketches women in headdresses, children, sinners... He creates scenes of daily life and picturesque scenes of great realism. The artist represents Brittany a lot. He is now one of the best-known painters of the Concarneau group. Knight by decree of May 16, 1910, he was promoted to Officer of the Legion of Honor on February 28, 1924. He died on August 11, 1924 at his home in Paris and was buried in the Père Lachaise cemetery.
