Object description :

"Alexandre Jacob (1876-1952) "
SUPERB oil/panel by Alexandre Jacob representing a winter light in the marshes, signed with the studio stamp on the back. Format of the single panel hirs frame 30x26cm. It is indeed a magnificent post-impressionist composition by Alexandre Jacob who paints two of his favorite subjects here, the marshes in Picardy, probably near Amiens, and the snow with its winter lights and reflections. All the qualities of Jacob are there, his powerful and light touch, his most subtle palette with here whites, grays or blues that come enhanced with ochres, oranges and browns and finally his very particular atmosphere with his eternal symbolist side, here accentuated by a flock of crows which Jacob likes to add in his marsh paintings; in short, very very handsome JAcob. Born in Paris, historical painter of the Marne Valley 1860-1960, the painter shared the spotlight there with his friend Edouard Cortes and the Marne image makers. He was a pupil of Eugene Claude. He exhibited in Paris, since 1899 at the Salon des Artistes Francais, member from 1902; 1908 honorable mention; 1914 standout gold medal; 1937 gold medal for the International Exhibition; he appeared there until 1950. He also exhibited at the Salon d'Hiver, the Salon des Aquarellistes and in private galleries. It was noted for its dawn and dusk lighting effects. Many museums keep his works, in Paris or Troyes for example. Today the market across the Channel is the most fond of his works where they regularly reach records. England is also the place where his paintings most often go on sale, hence an international dimension today. This painting on panel is in perfect original condition, and finally delivered in a very beautiful modern gilded frame with closed corners. Guaranteed authentic work
