Object description :

"Commode In Louis XV Transition Marquetry - Louis XVI - 1st Part Nineteenth"
Inlaid chest of drawers, in various wood veneers, in the taste of the Louis XV / Louis XVI transitional period. It opens with 4 drawers, when it gives the illusion of only having 3, due to the crosspiece which is hidden between the 3rd and the last of them (characteristic which would allow us to suppose a royal origin at this furniture). Its drawers all have oak bottoms, open with brass pull handles and are locked with key locks with entries in the same metal. The entire facade is generously decorated with Bois de Rose marquetry. The 1st drawer offers friezes in Light Lemon Tree and Ebony Wood veneer for the fillets, with Amaranth interspersing each of them. We find these same patterns on the sides of the furniture. The 3 other drawers are shaped in Chevrons for one, in Butterfly Wings for the other 2. The surrounds of these drawers - just like the uprights of this piece of furniture - are in Mahogany veneer. We will also find, in a moderate way, in front and on the sides, frames with Greek corners. Its gray marble top 'Ste Anne de France', in Gorge, is cut with a projection at the front and at the back, thus marrying the uprights of this piece of furniture which are also cut. Similarly, the edge, in the central part of the Marble, is cut back, as is the front, which gives a particular identity to this chest of drawers. It rests on 2 curved legs at the front, finished with brass clogs. The 2 back feet are straight. In addition to its unusual number of drawers on this type of chest of drawers, this piece of furniture also has the specificity of being high on legs. *********** Perfect condition after restoration in our workshop.
