Jesus ' Portrait 600

Painting oil on canvas measuring 26 x 22 cm without frame and 36 x 32 cm with a beautiful old frame depicting an image of Jesus Christ from the Venetian school.

This simple image of Jesus with thick hair and beard also with an attentive and suffering gaze despite its formal simplification, does not ignore an intense expressive characterization of this face; framed from the front, possibly made as a study for a major composition.

Indeed, taking into account its small size, one can suppose that it is about a sketch or a first idea, for an insertion in a composition with several figures, but one cannot exclude that it is the result of an immediate drafting in order to study the effects of this vigorous face, under the action of direct light.

In fact, the reflection on the particular stylistic peculiarities of this experimental `` painting '', which relies on 17th century matrices, yet transforming them into a shortened draft and a lightness of touch, led me to identify a Venetian school as a space in which to place this beautiful painting, as evidenced by the fresh pictorial scent.
