"Regional Four-door Cabinet, In Blond Cherry, Louis XV Period - 1810/1820"
Louis XV period four-door cabinet, originally from Ile et Vilaine, made up mainly of Blond Cherry but also Chestnut. It is topped with a double arched Crossbow Cornice, reminiscent of the shape of a heart. It overlooks a wide crosspiece carved with an important foliage. By definition, this piece of furniture is made up of two upright bodies, each offering two leaves. The upper doors are cut in a brace at the top - thus perfectly following the line of the Corniche - and all are made up of panels with Chevron patterns. Sufficiently rare element to be underlined, it should be noted that these are made of solid Cherry - as evidenced by the interior of the doors - and not of veneered wood, which is more commonly used. These recessed panels are highlighted by wavy moldings and each of these shutters has a long, finely chiseled brass escutcheon. The interiors are respectively lined with two then a 51 cm deep shelf placed on fixed cleats. The two elements of this piece of furniture are delimited by a row of three drawers with fronts with scalloped contours. The center one, which is narrower, locks, while the other two have square drop handles. The lower crosspiece of this Quatre Volets is generously scalloped and also features a sculpted floral decor. The set rests on two Biches feet at the front, straight at the back. The back of the cabinet is in Chestnut, a wood that also partly makes up the sides. Note that the locks, keys, as well as the plugs and other brass fittings are original. We will appreciate the pretty honey color of this Four Door unit which offers a large storage volume. The rigor of its main structure is softened by the curved lines of its Cornice and its doors, and its many aesthetic advantages will convince the next buyer of this Bicentenary piece of furniture. ******** Period: Early 19th century, 1810/1820.
