"Aboriginal Painting: Ronnie Tjampitjinpa, Tingari Dreaming 2014"
ABOUT THE WORKRETINGARI DREAMING The peregrination of the ancestors is symbolized by interlocking squares. These motifs symbolically tell of the journeys of the Tingari ancestors, who shaped the reliefs in the desert and breathed life into them. The muted, warm hues recall the ocher colors of the desert and the hills of Kintore, the community he hails from. ABOUT RONNIE TJAMPITJINPA Ronnie Tjampitjinpa was born in 1943 in Australia, near Muyinga which remains to this day an almost unexplored region of the country. He began to paint only in the 1980s. From 1970, he committed himself to the rights of Aborigines, in particular so that they could return to live on their land. Having played an important political role, he decided to retire home in 2002 to devote himself solely to painting. He often paints alone and isolates himself for several weeks in the desert to recharge his batteries. Ronnie Tjampitjinpa's style is easily identifiable. The geometry implemented in his paintings strikes the viewer, and bears witness to a territorial representation specific to Pintupi art, a territory he traveled with his family during his youth. His themes are varied, Dream of the water, Dream of fire, and he is particularly fond of the Tingari cycles. Ronnie Tjampitjinpa is today a key figure in Aboriginal art in Australia. In 2001 then in 2009, he was one of the “50 Most Collectable Australian Artists” according to the Australian Art Collector Magazine. Awards received by this artist: 2004.
