This statuette representing an attractive instrumentalist, is also known under the title "Music". Bronze from the early 20th century (Art-Nouveau) bearing the stamp of the foundry Victor Thiebaut Paris / Fumière and Gavignot successors, signature E. Barrias. Original medal patina, very good condition, complete in detail. Ernest Barrias was born in Paris (1841/1905) from an artistic family background, he joined the School of Fine Arts in 1858 in the studio of Jules Cavelier and later he was under the direction of Jouffroy. A promisingly talented sculptor, he won a first prize in Rome in 1865, participated in the ornamentation of the Paris Opera and exhibited at the Salon until 1904. Appointed professor at the Institute and member of the Academy, among his students turn out to be Paul Landowski, Victor Segoffin, Charles Despiau. He was named Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1878 (Commander in 1900). Nowadays the works of Barrias are present in the greatest museums.
