"Pottery Urn With Green Glaze. Han Dynasty."
Terracotta tripod urn with green lead glaze. The decoration, molded in relief, represents animals, tiger, dragon and fantastic creatures. The three feet are in the shape of bears which support the whole. The green glaze is very thick and very fusible, it has flowed forming drops. What is funny is that these drops go up to the edge of the top because these potteries were fired upside down. Chinese work from the Han period (between 200 BC and 200 AD). This model exists with a conical lid. It is likely that ours has lost its own, although there are no signs of wear. This type of urn was found in tombs and probably contained the ashes of the deceased. Damaged part formerly restored, visible on photo.
