Tapestry in wool and silk, outer dimensions 256 x 180 cm
This beautiful tapestry of circa 1650 was probably woven in Audenarde, a centre for tapestry production. It is of beautiful dimensions, not too big, not too small, and includes the original tapestry border with scenes in beautiful cartouches. The main scene probably derives from Mythology or the Bible and includes fantastic figures in fantasy clothing.
This tapestry is in good condition, given the age, with the usual old minor restorations and tears, but can be hung in the present condition. The colours are overall in good state of preservation. The tapestry is not lined, but the back has been strengthened with vertical strips of black fabric. Velcro for hanging at the top.
