About 1790.
Traces of signature on the left. Round shape, lined with paper.
The plate on which the portrait is painted is in good condition, it has no cracks or breaks.
On the white shawl there is apparently a large part of the black missing. But by observing carefully, another reason becomes evident: the black color was applied over the white of the original shawl, for reasons of mourning, and almost completely removed in a later period.
Being the time of the wars, it is not entirely improbable that this elegant lady, with a very accurate hairstyle with braided ribbons in wavy hair, and the proud posture of a woman from a good family.. maybe she had a period of mourning.. we can hypothesize for the loss of her husband in the Napoleonic wars.
However, even the high quality of the execution of this small miniature portrait leads us to think that it is a good artist whose signature is being studied at the moment.
