"Charles Eschard Travels To Dubrovnik"
Merchant of Raguse drawn in full length during one of his business trips to Marseilles. The drawing is signed and located at the top right. It is framed in a 19th century Louis XVI style gilt baguette. The artist Charles Eschard, born in 1748 in Caen, trained at the Rouen Academy under the guidance of Jean Baptiste Descamps. A trip to the Netherlands introduced him to the art of Rembrandt. He is also known as an engraver.
