"Floor Lamp Design Gilles Derain (1944-2019) 1979"
Floor lamp by Gilles Derain, tribute to Pierre Chareau, dating from the 80s. Gilles Derain is a French designer born in 1944 and died in June 2019. Unlike other great designers, he was self-taught. After a start as a dealer in master paintings, he decided to train in design by an unusual method: the flea market. He became the recognized specialist in the history of decorative arts and was among the first to discover the creators of the UAM, Union of Modern Artists. He will also be one of the precursors of the "black epoxy sheet metal" syndrome movement of the 80s marked by a saturated and mannered artistic Japaneseization. Gilles Derain creates many works, some of which have had great commercial success, including his floor lamp MPC Merci Pierre Chareau, made in 1979, which now belongs to the collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Montréal.
