"Marie-madeleine Boileau : "the Hydrangeas""
Marie-Madeleine boileau (20th century) : “Hydrangeas”, oil on canvas 33 X 41 cm mounted in a canvas marie-louise frame 43 X 51 cm. A micro-scale of one mm, slightly cussioned frame. Who today remembers the Boileau sisters? It is difficult to find their attested trace at the Salons des Artistes Méridionaux in Toulouse, and yet... During my career, I have rarely had the opportunity to see their works, but I know that they also worked in the Basque Country, in particular Bidart. They were from Oloron in Haut-Béarn and if her sister worked with a curious patchwork technique, thus creating Basque scenes which she distributed in the region, Marie-Madeleine painted landscapes with Nabis or Impressionist accents. Our painting, made in the 1950s and 1960s, corresponds to this last category, the composition in diving and the ample but fair touch, playing on the variations of shadow and light, is reminiscent of a "great ancestor" Claude Monet.
