"Bronze "
Nice bronze with brown patina by Auguste Joseph Peiffer (1832-1886), French sculptor born in Paris, who mainly produced bronzes with allegorical and mythological subjects. This work depicts a beautiful child holding his hunting dog on a leash, preventing him from reaching a partridge lying on the ground. Barefoot and scantily clad, the chubby cherub pulls back tightly clutching the bonds holding his tall setter. This one marks the stop on the bird which lies on a ground covered with foliage. This sculpture is finely executed. The lines are delicate and the details numerous. The artist skillfully mixes the sweetness of the child and the strength of the hunting dog. ******** Period: Late 19th century. Excellent condition.
