"Provençal Kneader In Solid Walnut - Late Nineteenth"
Beautiful wedding kneader in solid walnut, carved and molded, decorated with musical attributes, flowers and foliage. This Provençal ornamental piece of furniture, also called Pastiera, was originally a piece of furniture used to knead bread dough. Later becoming a piece of furniture, this kneader is distinguished by the delicacy of its ornamentation. It is composed of two parts. The trapezoidal tank (known as the mixer part) is made up of boards in hoppers and opens with a lid with 3 well-joined boards without composite. This one has in its periphery a groove molding, eventful on the front. The front part is remarkable for its single plank, without joints, sculpted with knockouts, molded with volutes and decorated with flowers, foliage and musical instruments in the centre. Inside, a large zinc tray protects the kneader and allows a variety of uses for this small piece of furniture: planter or storage unit. This upper part rests on a frame made up of 4 feet turned at the top and ending in a snail foot with a carved acanthus leaf. The 4 uprights of this base, slightly in hoppers, are connected by crosspieces and spacers provided with sinuous mouldings. The high fretted, cut-out crosspiece is sculpted with a knockout representing a basket in the center decorated with flowers. In the lower part, the cut crosspiece is decorated with musical instruments (tambourine, maracas and trumpet). Delicately crafted, this 19th century kneader is distinguished by its refinement. It is suitable for warm and authentic interiors. ******** Period: Late 19th century Excellent condition after restoration in our workshop. Waxed finish.
