"Bronze "
Bronze with brown patina representing a couple kissing in a passionate embrace. This scene was immortalized by Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828) nicknamed "the Sculptor of the Lights", one of the most important sculptors of the 18th century and particularly of the Neo-Classical period. Appreciated for the realistic rendering of his works and his extraordinary talent, it was at the Royal Academy that the young prodigy won the first prize for sculpture known as the Prix de Rome in 1761. “Le Baiser Donné” represents a young man wearing a headband over his wavy hair, languidly kissing a young woman dressed in a vaporous dress delicately revealing her chest. A wreath of flowers unites the two lovers, underlining their love and the attraction they feel. The young woman abandons herself, wrapped in the arms of her beloved, in this ode to sensuality. This work is presented on a pedestal resting on a circular anthracite gray marble veined with white. This bronze perfectly embodies the romanticism of the time and the union of two souls. It will charm you with its refinement and grace. ******** Period: Late 19th century Perfect condition. Shipping possible by Colissimo with appropriate protection.
