"Game Table In Solid Walnut And Incarnat Turquin Marble, Louis XIII Taste - Early Twentieth"
Atypical living room table in solid walnut topped with a magnificent Incarnat Turquin marble, from Caunes-Minervois in Aude. This marble was used for the fireplaces of the Palace of Versailles. This table has the particularity of presenting four drawers in parallel. Two large belts are provided with two drawers each pulling by a wooden button and false drawers are present on the sides. The fronts of the drawers are dressed in harmonious geometric moldings and separated by a large inverted square. The wide belt surrounding this table has a slightly cut low crosspiece bringing out a scrolled rod and in the center an important foliage sculpture. At the corners, solid feet have a high projecting and chamfered part continuing with a turned part ending in a ball foot. The lower part of this piece of furniture is made up of a wide spacer turned in a T, whose central parts have a turning in the shape of a spinning top. The turquin crimson red marble combines pink, orange, white and gray tones. It has angles with projections and facets with a bec-de-corbin periphery. This rare table of Louis XIII taste will seduce you with its prestigious marble, its four original drawers and its small size. ******** Period: Early 20th century.
