"Pendulum In Gilt Bronze, Napoleon III Period - Mid-19th Century"
Pendulum in finely chiseled gilt bronze, decorated with a pious young woman in contemplation. The elegant young lady is dressed in a simple but refined outfit. She is wearing a lace cap that hides her long hair held in a sober bun. Her pretty face raised to the sky, she delicately places her right hand on her heart, as if touched by grace. She is leaning on a stoup decorated with an angel and surmounted by a religious alcove surrounding the statue of a Virgin and Child. The inscription "AVE MARIA" is present and underlines the religious character of the scene. Attached to the young woman a hurdy-gurdy implies that she is a musician and that it is perhaps a representation of Sainte-Cécile, the patron saint of music in Christianity. This clock has a white enamel dial accompanied by Roman numerals. The whole rests on a large, meticulously worked plinth, decorated with shells, acanthus leaves, foliage, scrolls, friezes and flowers on a striated background. This Napoleon III gilt bronze clock will delight you with its finesse, charisma and luminosity. ******** Period: Mid 19th century Very good condition. A chip in the dial.
