A silver segmented pomander.

Italian, 17th century.

Measures 6 cm high and weighs 58 grams.

The eight segments are released when the bail is unscrewed to reveal three compartments which are engraved ‘Cocco, Macis and Neroli’.

Similar examples can be found in the collection of the Science Museum, London, Object Number: A629410, as well as the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Accession Number: 20.67.
