"Igbo Mask, Nigeria. Before 1950"
This helmet mask with brown kaolin coloring on the eyes and the headband surrounding the face. The face is covered with scarification s. a comparable mask is photographed in the village of Jukund 'Arufu in 1965 depicting the female part of the husband and wife couple in my AKU masquerade which relates to the local chief. cf: The other face, African masks from the Barbier-Müller collection.
