"Igor Mitoraj "
Igor Mitoraj "Asclepios" Bronze Sculpture - Limited Series 504/1000 Igor Mitoraj, world famous Franco-Polish artist, Born in 1944, died in 2014. Student of the prestigious Tadeusz Kantor, from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, he owes his master, an art theoretician and theater man, his taste for ancient myths, ruins and masks. All his sculptures breathe nostalgia for a lost ideal world of which fragmented vestiges remain. The artist is known for his numerous monumental sculptures exhibited at the British Museum in London, in Sicily, in front of the ruins of Agrigento and in Paris at La Défense where, among other things, one can admire the famous Grand Toscano. The Bust of Asclepius (1988) It reproduces, in reduced dimensions, the spirit of these spectacular productions whose appearance in the public space exerts a real fascination. As always with Mitoraj, the work is dedicated to the body, whose classic perfection we will admire here. But it is also a reflection on human beauty, its fragility and its submission to time. The bronze hesitates between the poetics of ruins and the aesthetics of the unfinished. Thus, the work, which seems broken, is paradoxically presented with the traces of its construction (a tenon at the level of the chest), clearly inspired by the aesthetics of the “non finito” dear to Michelangelo. The sculpture is sold with its certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
