"Candelabrum And Bronze By Lve Robert - Mid Nineteenth"
Large Chandelier by the French Artist Louis Valentin Elias Robert (1821-1874) which we will choose to describe in three stages. The central part is a patinated Bronze representing an Ancient Woman with a swaying silhouette and frizzy hair styled in a bun. She is dressed in a long tunic revealing the shape of her body and her bare feet. Helped with her left hand, she carries on her head a container with two handles which serves as the base for the upper element of this item: a candelabrum in Spelter with six branches. The latter, arranged alternately on two different heights, are decorated with scrolls. Each is finished with a sculpted candlestick with a beaded Bobèche. The central shaft, also ornate, is crowned with a Crane perched on a Turtle and controlling a Serpent. Fine chains suspended from one branch to the other embellish this Chandelier part. Finally, the whole rests on a high round base in black marble with grooves around its perimeter. Note on the intermediate pedestal of the Cariatide, the inscription 'LVE ROBERT', signature of the pupil of David d'Angers and Pradier. ********* Period: Mid-nineteenth Perfect condition.
