"Old Carved Wood Urn. Southeast Asia."
Covered vase, probably an urn, either funerary or ritual. It is carved from a single piece of very dark reddish-brown almost black hardwood. The lid adapts perfectly to the receptacle which required perfect mastery because the shape is wavy. On the "neck" of the lid are traced wide curves like so many necklaces on a female neck. This urn can be used with advantage to present jewelry. Here we have put for example a Chinese necklace from the Neolithic period which is not for sale. It is an object of superb elegance and very rare. Southeast Asian work, probably Burma. 19th century or earlier. Height about 35cm. Beautiful patina of the wood. Small accidents that do not alter the aesthetics of the work.
