19th Miniature:

Large format miniature painted in gouache on ivory. In a sumptuous 18th century interior, a seated man, seen from the back, dressed in a luxurious midnight blue velvet suit, is giving a music lesson to a pretty young woman dressed in silk who is standing next to him and holding a musical instrument by leaning towards the sheet music in front of them. The scene is charming and the realization of an extreme delicacy in all the details as well for the characters as for the decoration. The colors used are both contrasting and subtle. The wide strapping surrounding the miniature is finely chiseled. This beautiful set is in a cedar burl frame. Presence of a suspension ring on the reverse. 18.5 X 17.5cm with the frame.
