"Allegorical Clock Of Love, Empire Period"
19th century Empire/Restoration clock on the theme of love: Orpheus decides to rescue his wife Eurydice, who died of a viper bite, from Hell. He manages to thwart the vigilance of Cerberus, the three-headed dog, guardian of the Underworld, by singing and playing his lyre. Charon, ferryman of souls, passed the souls of the deceased, already buried, in his boat. To pay it, people put a coin in the mouth of the deceased. Those who could not pay were sentenced to wander the shores for 100 years. The souls had to row because Charon only steered the boat. The base of the clock represents this scene by a beautiful work of carving and details Wire suspension, works and strikes the hours and half-hours. Timing, pendulum and key provided, Breguet type needle, movement signed Pons (recognized Parisian watchmaker from the early 19th century)
